Hi, I'm Egy!

Welcome to Alor, my homeland

Hi, I’m Israfil Bachtiar but everyone calls me Egy — and I hope you will too. The Alor archipelago is my homeland; I was born on Pantar island and raised in the quaint town of Moru, in Alor island. The sea has always been part of my life — from my father, a diver, fisherman, and boat builder, I learned to respect and love the water early on. Today, I’m proud to continue that legacy as Alor’s first PADI Instructor.

After a decade guiding thousands of divers through some of Indonesia’s most stunning destinations, I finally made the heartfelt return home to Alor in 2022. Since then, I’ve spent four years diving these waters every day — intimately getting to know every corner, every current, every surprise it holds.

Come explore Alor through the eyes of someone who grew up here — its culture, its magic, and its mind-blowing marine life — all with safety and good vibes at the heart of every dive.

The Bubu Dive Alor logo draws its inspiration from the people of Alor, their deep-rooted traditions, and the beauty of the waters they depend on.

At its heart is the bubu fish trap, woven from rattan and bamboo—an emblem of the skill, ingenuity, and generations of knowledge carried by Alor’s coastal fishers, whose lives move in harmony with the sea. The tenun-inspired pattern echoes the artistry of Alor’s master weavers, whose vibrant hand-loomed textiles express the cultural soul, pride, and stories of their community. At the center, a turquoise glow reflects Alor’s crystal-clear waters, where visibility stretches to astonishing depths and marine life flourishes.

Together, these elements honor the people of Alor—their heritage, their craft, and their enduring connection to an extraordinary ocean.
